Stay Young at Heart Living in Effington County

The golden years are shining bright for those living in Effington County. At the local Senior Center old friends welcome new ones into the fold. Located at 128 New Stillwell Road, the building is open to Effington County residents 60 years and older. Hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Seniors get in the game. Friendly bouts of competition are always in the works in the game room. Card sharks are adept at pulling the wool over opponent’s eyes and walking away with the prize. Board games bring back memories of the past and gossip is in full swing at any given time.

Hobbies are indulged in as well with a variety of classes to stimulate interest and foster creativity in the craft room. Bookworms can find their next great read in the library where conversations about recent best sellers always spring up. The social scene is always in full swing. Lunchtime is a popular time to catch up on all the gossip and is presented Monday through Friday.

Seniors Cause a Sensation on Effingham County Property

Members of the center are encouraged to embrace a healthy lifestyle. Exercise class keeps folks in tip top shape. The calendar boasts a variety of classes ranging from low impact to on up. A crowd gathers twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for strength training. Other health services include blood pressure checks, immunizations and wellness screenings.

Seniors who are homebound can take advantage of the transportation service offered by Effington County. Drivers bring members to doctor’s appointments, help with shopping and banking needs, and transport them back and forth to the senior center. A meal delivery service is also available to those who need it most.

It takes a village and living in Effington County means being a part of a caring, tight knit community. Senior residents are valued and appreciated at the local senior center where staying young at heart is the norm.
